Den Norske Klub & Nora Salon
June 12, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The Salons of the Enlightenment, were central, social meeting places in which individuals engaged in the art of conversation in pursuit of knowledge and fellowship. The Salon debates typically touched on a variety of subjects ranging from science, philosophy and politics, to literature and art.
Inspired by the Salons of the 17th and 18th centuries, Den Norske Klub and Nora Nettverksklub are delighted to invite you to the launch of The Salon featuring Professor Kristin Bakke Tuesday June 12th.
Dr. Bakke is Professor of Political Science and International Relations at University College London (UCL) and Associate Research Professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). She is also an associate editor at the PRIO-based Journal of Peace Research. Focusing on political violence, Kristin’s research explores how states respond to opposition within their borders, the dynamics of violence in self-determination struggles, and post-war state-building. She is part of the Conflict & Change research cluster at UCL and her publications draw on cross-national data, public opinion surveys, and fieldwork—in Russia, Northern Ireland, India, Guatemala, Canada, and several post-Soviet de facto states.
In the first Salon, held at Den Norske Klub in St James’s, Professor Bakke will share with us her take on the world and share her extensive work and insight into political forces at times of war and war-time legacies. Please see here for more about Professor Bakke @ https://kristinbakke.com
