DNK 17 May Celebration Dinner – 17th May 2017

We are delighted to host a festive black tie and bunad dinner in the King Harald V Room, to celebrate the Norwegian National Day and Den Norske Klub’s 130 year anniversary, Tuesday 17th May 2017 from 6pm until late.

Guests of Honour: We have the pleasure of the company of Sir Richard and Lady Dales. Sir Richard, K.C.V.O., C.M.G. is the current Chairman of Anglo Norse and former British Ambassador to Norway (1998 to 2002).

Entertainment: Maja Bugge, a Norwegian cellist and composer based in Lancaster, UK, will be performing her latest compositions for solo cello accompanied by a light-and video show from Northern Norway created by Adam York Gregory. The music takes its inspiration from the Vesterålen Islands in North Norway where Maja was born. Her music is often described as meditative and playful with a strong sense of dialogue with the situations she performs in.  “Maja conjures up a magical atmosphere with her deceptively simple material and the most intimate of expressive instruments: a lone ‘cello. Her music has the power to transform the space around her yet reflect and absorb it, and in doing so she creates an almost meditative-like state in the listener. We are transported into a world of undulating landscapes, distant echoes and slowly-evolving patterns by music which has the strange ability to convey – at the same time – the familiar and the unfamiliar.”  Steve Mead, Artistic Director, Manchester Jazz Festival.
